The city traffic police will have around 100 new traffic personnel soon, increasing the force’s strength by 30%, a senior official said on Wednesday.
At present, the traffic police have around 380 staff members.
To tackle the busy traffic on city roads, the department has been demanding that the manpower be increased.
“The new staff will join the department in the coming week. With their presence, our department will become more effective. It will certainly help us to manage traffic better,” said Bharati Arora, DCP (traffic), Gurgaon.
The city police have deployed around 11% of its staff to manage the flow of traffic. Though the number of personnel is the highest in the entire state, traffic management in the city is worse. The shortage of staff has been a major cause of worry for the department.
“The traffic police department has around 380 staff members, while the district should have 829 personnel to manage the traffic,” said a senior traffic police official.
With the help of new recruits, the traffic police can serve people better and match the needs of the fast-growing population, the officer said. The Gurgaon police will have an additional 2,000 personnel by March 2012.

{{/usCountry}}Haryana DGP Ranjiv Singh Dalal said the total strength of the force would reach 5,600 after the new additions.
Meanwhile, the department currently has 3,405 traffic personnel, at least 34% less than the number of staff sanctioned for a city of 1.5 million people.
