Kids decry BSNL apathy

THE SUBHASH Children Society staged a demonstration at the Gandhi Statue, Phoolbagh, in protest against the undue delay by BSNL in launching special telephone services.
More than 150 children of the society staged a demonstration and demanded immediate activation of special telephone services of 1098. On dialing 1098 the child or an adult on his behalf can get access to various services required. The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment has set up a project Childline which is a 24-hour free emergency telephone service for children in distress such as street children, run away children, children in situation of physical, mental and emotional abuse. The ministry has initiated the project through the Childline India Foundation.
The Subhash Children Society has been appointed as the collaborative organisation for Childline Kanpur, by the Childline India Foundation. President of the organisation Kamal Kant Tewari accused the BSNL officials that despite the clear instructions of the Childline India Foundation, the special telephone lines have not been released for the organisation. “For the past four months the matter has been unnecessarily delayed by the BSNL authorities,” said Tewari. A memorandum, addressed to the GM BSNL, was also handed over to the public relation officer Riyaz Ahmad by the society.
