A NATO airstrike killed 11 suspected Taliban militants hiding in a southern Afghan compound.

A NATO airstrike killed 11 suspected Taliban militants hiding in a southern Afghan compound, an alliance spokesman said on Wednesday.

The strike occurred in the Zhari district of southern Kandahar province late last night, said NATO spokesman Major Scott Lundy.

Some 15 suspected militants were preparing an ambush on the main highway in the area but fled into the compound after realising they were being watched, Lundy said.
