The bus, which was carrying 50 passengers, was travelling through the Bolan Pass region on a regular run from the provincial capital Quetta to the eastern border city of Lahore.

Interior Minister Aftab Sherpao said 12 people were killed in the explosion, while doctors said 19 others were injured.

"It was a timing device planted inside the bus," said Baluchistan police chief Chaudhry Yaqoob, adding that the injured had been taken to hospital in Quetta.

"There was a big explosion and the bus was filled with smoke," Lal Mohammad, one of the injured said.

"I fainted and when I regained my senses I was lying on the ground with blood and human flesh around me," said Mohammad who was injured in the leg.

Two brothers from Punjab province also described scenes of horror.

"The injured covered in blood were screaming and limbs and pieces of flesh were scattered," said Shah Mohammad, who was injured in the chest and left arm.

"We condemn this act of sabotage," minister Sherpao said, adding that the government would bring the bombers to justice.
