As usual, most of the daily passengers had gathered at the railway station to catch Awadh Assam Express. Unlike on other working days, on Wednesday the passengers reached the station after enquiring at the 131 about the arrival of the train after the IVRS informed the passengers that the train was late by about 1.30 hours. When 300-odd passengers had reached the station on time given by the enquiry system. On reaching, the passengers came to know that the train had left the station 30 minutes before the informed time.

The cause for misinformation, according to one of the senior railway officers of the railways, was carelessness on part of the clerks, who failed to upgrade timing. He further said that the timing was fed on computer manually, and it was a lackadaisical approach towards duty by the concerned person.
