Noida Power Company Limited (NPCL) officials said 20 MW deficit necessitated power cuts in most areas. “This is because against the total demand of 85 MW the supply is mere 65MW,” said S. Mohanty, spokesperson, NPCL.

There were angry protests from people in Greater Noida on Sunday against long power cuts. NPCL even registered an FIR against a person for rioting.

The situation has been relatively better in Noida. While Noida is a part of the 24-hour power supply zone, there were reports of three to four hour power cuts on Tuesday.

Residents complained electricity cuts have badly affected the water supply. “Water pressure is very low during morning and evening power cuts. There is no supply on first floor houses and residents have to get water from the ground floor,” said Munna Kumar, general secretary, Federation of Noida Residents’ Welfare Association.
