14-year-old boy’s body recovered from sewer

The body was brought out of a manhole in the presence of GMC Commissioner VK Yadav and city magistrate RK Singh, reports Atul Mathur.

The rescue team of the Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation (GMC) recovered the body of 14-year-old Aas Mohammad on Friday in a sewer line in Pratap Nagar. Three days ago, Mohammed had fallen into a manhole in Islam Nagar, about three kilometres from where his body was found.

The body was brought out of a manhole in the presence of GMC Commissioner VK Yadav and city magistrate RK Singh. The boy's father Raees Mohammad was also called to the spot to identify the body, which was handed over to the family after the post mortem.

GMC announced a compensation of Rs. 50,000 to Mohammad’s family “Since the boy's family is very poor, we have also offered a contractual job to his father,” Yadav said.

Aas Mohammad had fallen into an open manhole near his house on Tuesday morning. When municipal divers failed to trace the child, the district administration called in an army team. However, after an exhaustive 12-hour exercise, the army also gave up. It was then that GMC decided to check the four-kilometre long sewer line by entering each and every manhole.
