Altogether 144 nominations were filed for the corporators’ election on Saturday.
During the three-day nomination process, which began on October 5, 197 nominations have been filed for the corporators’ seats till date. Sunday being the off day, only Monday is left for nominations.
On the first day, nine nominations were filed, on the second day, 44 nominations were filed while today 144 nominations were filed. Once again, women candidates turned out in large numbers and of the total number of nominations, about 50 per cent were those of women.
Monday, the last day of the nomination process, may witness a surge in the nominations. Congress candidate for the mayoral seat will also file his nomination papers on Monday.

THE BHARATIYA Janata Party finally announced its election management committee and appointed Shyam Bihari Misra chief election coordinator. Misra, a former MP, had put forward his claim for the mayoral post but the party decided to field Ravindra Patni as the mayoral candidate.
Satya Deo Pachauri and Shyam Babu Gupta have been appointed assistant election coordinators. Jagatveer Singh Drone will manage the treasury while Hemant Dwivedi and Anoop Awasthi will look after media management. BJP MLA from Cantonment Satish Mahana has been made the spokesman of the committee along with senior BJP leader Tanveer Ahmed Usmani. The committee will be responsible for making the party sail through the local bodies elections.
