U Ramesh (26), a constable attached to Andhra Pradesh Special Police (APSP), was killed when motorcycle-borne masked assailants opened fire at him in Shali Banda area under Hussaini-Alam police station limits.

"We have picked up 15 persons for questioning after gathering information from the shop owners of the area who were eyewitnesses to the incident," a senior police officer told PTI.

Terror operative Vicar Ahmed alias Vicaruddin, who has been absconding for the last three years, could be the mastermind behind yesterday's incident, the officer said.

Meanwhile, the probe into the shooting has been handed over to Special Investigation Team (SIT), an expert probe wing of the city police, he added.
