BEATING DISABILITY with her fortitude, 15-year-old Sarita Dwivedi recently added a feather in her cap by being selected for the Bal Shree Award. This award will be conferred on her by none other than President of India Dr APJ Abdul Kalam.
Sarita, who was seriously injured after coming in contact with a high-tension wire when she was only four, had to lose her both hands and right leg, has travelled a long journey for this award.
At first, she managed to beat the able bodied competitors at zonal and regional level art competition organised by Bal Bhawan, Allahabad. From there, she got the honour of being in the race for the Bal Shree Award.
For this coveted award she participated in the national-level art competition which was held in New Delhi in the month of December. However, the date for receiving the award is yet to be announced.
Talking to HT Allahabad Live, Sarita expressed joy over her achievement. "My happiness knew no bounds when I got the news that I would be felicitated by the President ".
She said that she wanted to achieve a lot in the field of fine arts and wanted to help physically challenged children and encourage them to succeed in their life.

{{/usCountry}}Sarita says her parents are the source of her inspiration. Apart from them, her brother, sister, friends and teachers, especially her teacher of fine arts Indu Pandey and director of Bal Bhawan Jaya Das Gupta have encouraged her to move ahead in life.
Overwhelmed by his daughter's achievements, VK Dwivedi said: "I cannot express my joy and happiness in words.”
