The police raided the house of one Javed Khan in Chatra district's boura village, seized the explosive powder and arrested him, Superintendent of Police Akhilesh Jha said.

He said Khan was a sympathiser of the Maoists.

A separate police team arrested a suspected activist of the People's Liberation Front of India (PLFI), identified as Asif Kumar Bhagat, from Gumla district's Kanduatoli village, the police said.

A country-made pistol, cartridges, a mobile phone and PLFI literature were seized from his possession, they said.

Both the CPI(Maoist) and the PLFI have called for a Jharkhand bandh in protest against what the posters of the ultras alleged harassment of their cadets by the police.

The PLFI activists set on fire four motor-bikes on the border areas of Chatra and Balumath, the sources said.

There was no report of any casualties in their turf war.

Bus operators suspended long distance services in Chatra, Hazaribag, Palamau, Gumla, Latehar, East and West Singhbhum.

Some shops in some villages under Ghatsila sub-division in East Singhbhum district remained closed.

The bandh did not have any impact in the Santhal Pargana areas and in other towns of the state.
