159 people held in West Bengal on EC's directive

Superintendent of Police Praveen Kumar said several arms, ammunition and 15 bombs were recovered following the raids.

Following the Election Commission's directive, altogether 159 persons, against whom non-bailable arrest warrants had been pending, were arrested on Friday night in North 24-Parganas district.

Superintendent of Police Praveen Kumar said several arms, six rounds of ammunition and 15 bombs were recovered following the raids.

The raids were carried out under Bongaon, Basirhat, Titagarh, Lake Town, Bijpur and Sandeshkhali police stations, said Kumar.

Earlier, 109 persons against whom non-bailable arrest warrants were pending for murder and dacoity were arrested last Tuesday and 16 firearms seized from them in the district, Kumar added.
