17 Indians deported from Maldives after scuffle

Seventeen Indians have been deported from the Maldives after a scuffle with local employees at their workplace.

The persons, who were engaged in polishing and painting work on an island there, told reporters at the airport here that they had got into a scuffle with the locals there when one of them "beat" up their colleague.

Official sources said that it was a dispute over working hours. Eight of the 17 persons who arrived hailed from Kerala while the rest were from Tamil Nadu, the sources said.
