Eighteen people were killed and nearly 30 injured when a bus overturned and fell into a gorge in East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya late on Friday night, police sources said on Saturday.

The driver lost control over the bus while overtaking an autorickshaw and hit a vehicle coming from the opposite direction before plunging into the gorge near Mawkajem village, the sources said.
The overcrowded bus was on its way to Tynriang village from Shillong. On Friday three persons died while 15 people succumbed to their injuries on Saturday, sources said.
The injured have been admitted to Pynursia Public Health Centre and Shillong Civil Hospital, sources added.
