2,000 more forces sent to Assam

The Centre took the move in an effort to beef up security in Assam ahead of the forthcoming National Games.

In an effort to beef up security in Assam ahead of the forthcoming National Games, the Centre on Saturday rushed 2,000 additional paramilitary personnel to the violence-hit state.

The fresh deployment of 20 more companies of central forces has been made for internal security duties and to ensure peaceful National Games next month, a spokesman of the Ministry of Home Affairs said.

The deployment is in addition to the 30 companies of paramilitary forces despatched to the state recently in the wake of killing of 70 non-Assamese migrant labourers, mostly from Bihar, by ULFA militants.
