Two people have been arrested in connection with a case where children were physically tortured at a bangle-manufacturing unit in Mumbai.
Shiva Sankar Nayak from Palasa and Ramachandra Sahoo from Sidheswar village were allegedly involved in child trafficking in the district.
At least five children, who had returned from Mumbai after suffering physical torture at a bangle-making unit, were on Saturday admitted to a government hospital in Berhampur, where doctors confirmed that four of them carried injury marks.
The children, aged between 11 and 14 years, were among the 16 from the southern district of Ganjam who were working in the bangle-manufacturing unit in the western metropolis and had returned on Friday.
The five belonged to Gautami village of the southern Ganjam district and were administered first-aid on arrival, police said.
"We have admitted the boys in MKCG Medical College Hospital for detailed health check-up," Berhampur sub-collector Ranjit Mohanty said adding that medical expenses for their treatment would be borne by the district Red Cross Society.
