Two people died and over 100 others were injured on Sunday when a protest march at Karontha village, 10 km from Haryana’s Rohtak district, took a violent turn.

Arya Samaj protesters, opposing the re-opening of an ashram of controversial godman Rampal, set several buses, one ambulance and a liquor vend on fire, vandalised 10 other vehicles and clashed with the police who tried to stop them.

The Arya Samajis claimed that the ownership of the ashram was illegal. The ashram followers, however, had filed a petition before court which in its judgement had ordered it to maintain status quo and asked concerned authorities to provide security to the dera followers.
