Two jawans were killed when a search party was ambushed by terrorists in Tander forest area, Kishtwar district, about 260 km north-east of Jammuon late Thursday night. Tander is about 40-km from Kishtwar town by it takes two-day to reach there as it it’s not connected by the road.
Till now this year 12 terrorists have been shot dead and two security personnel-one state police jawan- have died in terrorist violence.
“Two jawans (11 Rashtriya Rifles) were critically injured in an opening fire, at about 12.30 amearly Thursday morning, by the terrorists who had laid an ambush near the Tander village.
Members Village Defence Committees (VDCs) of near by area reached the spot after some time. The terrorists, however, managed to run away,” said ASP Dr Sunil Gupta, officiating SSP Kishtwar. SSP said the ambush was probably laid by three terrorists.
The bodies were yet to reach Kishtwar town for the postmortem. Tander had received its first snowfall on Wednesday night and terrorists took advantage of the bad weather to strike first and then run away.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack but police said either Hizbul Mujahideen or Harkat-ul-Jehad-al-Islami (HUJI)- Islamic Struggle Movement-had carried this attack. Police said there about five terrorists active in the area and they keep on changing their group.

It’s the second incident of Army killing in the state. The state has witnessed an increase in terrorists violence this year. On Jan 26 5-hr gun fire was exchanged with infiltrators along International Border in Kanachak area.
