2 marshals run over on Gurgaon E-way

A speeding Tata Indica car mowed down two traffic marshals on the Gurgaon Expressway on Sunday morning, while they were trying to help the driver of a pick-up truck, which had stalled in the middle of the road, push the vehicle out of the range of the moving traffic. HT reports.

A speeding Tata Indica car mowed down two traffic marshals on the Gurgaon Expressway on Sunday morning, while they were trying to help the driver of a pick-up truck, which had stalled in the middle of the road, push the vehicle out of the range of the moving traffic.

One marshal, Devendar Singh, was killed, while the other is grievously injured.

The Indica sped away and has yet to be traced.

Said investigating officer Hawa Singh of Civil Lines police station: "At around 11 am the two traffic marshals, were helping the driver of a mini-truck that had broken down to move to one side, when suddenly the Indica hit them."

Between January 2008, when the Gurgaon Expressway opened, and December 2009, 120 people have been killed and 1600 injured in accidents along this route. Around 40 per cent of them have been pedestrians.

In a similar incident in May 2008, a traffic marshal on the Bus Rapid Transit corridor was run over by a speeding vehicle and killed.
