Two Pune residents who died of swine flu on Wednesday took the city’s swine flu toll to fifteen on Wednesday.
Ghorpadi resident Vijay Awaghade (54) died at KEM Hospital. He had been shifted from Naidu Hospital on Monday after his condition deteriorated.
“Awaghade’s swab reports came positive a few hours after his death,” said Medical Superintendent of KEM Hospital Vishwanath Yemul.
The other, Narendra Deshpande (54), who had been admitted with swine flu-like symptoms to Sahyadri-Munot Hospital at Swargate in Pune died around 8.30 pm.
The resident of Bibwewadi was admitted five days ago.
On Tuesday, his condition deteriorated and he was put on a ventilator. Despite the fresh death and new 36 cases detected, Pune District Collector Chandrakant Dalvi said the situation was totally under control.
In Pune, of 2 lakh patients screened for swine flu so far, 616 have tested positive.
City doctors are now grappling with treating side effects of Tamiflu, the drug given to combat swine flu. “Up to two per cent patients could have side effects of the drug,” said Sassoon Hospital Dean Arun Jamkar.

{{/usCountry}}The state’s swine flu toll has now reached 22. Three people have died in Mumbai and Nashik each while one succumbed to the infection in Aurangabad.
On Wednesday, swab reports of three patients came positive for the H1N1 virus at the National Institute of Virology, Pune.
They were Arjun Maduram (40) from Aurangabad who died on Monday and Nashik residents Sukdev Baste and Bhausaheb Gosavi who succumbed at the civil hospital on Monday.
