2 SIMI activists remanded to judicial custody

The accused?Saif Nachan and Meenadh Nachan were arrested from Padga Village in Thane district on August 3.

A local court on Thursday remanded two Students of Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) activists to judicial custody till August 31 for their alleged role in unlawful activities.

The accused—Saif Nachan and Meenadh Nachan were arrested from Padga Village in Thane district on August 3.They were believed to be brothers of Prevention of Terrorist Act (POTA) accused Saquib Nachan, who is facing trial in the Mulund bomb blast case of March 13, 2003.

The duo were produced before the Metropolitan Magistrate AM Gadre, who remanded them to judicial custody.

Advocate Mobin Solkar, representing the accused, had moved an application stating his clients have apprehended threats of their life in the Arthor Road jail.

The court has forwarded the letter to jail superintendent of Arthur Road Jail and directed to shift them from there to Kalyan or Thane prison.

Earlier, police had seized several incriminating documents from them.
