20 held after cricket match clash in Kolkata

Two groups clashed over the cricket match on Wednesday night and the violence spilled over to Thursday afternoon near a school.

A city court on Friday remanded to police custody all the 20 persons arrested in connection with the overnight group clash over a cricket match at Narkeldanga area in the eastern part of the city where bombs were hurled by both sides.

The arrested will be in police custody till April 4, acting Chief Judicial Magistrate of Sealdah court said.

They have been charged with rioting, attempt to murder and violating Explosives Substances Act.

Two groups clashed over the cricket match on Wednesday night and the violence spilled over to Thursday afternoon near a school.

A large police force led by a deputy commissioner of police was rushed to area and the police lathicharged and burst tear gas shells to quell the clash.

There was fresh violence at the Sealdah court when some of those against whom a case was registered went to surrender.

A youth was mercilessly beaten up by another inside the court premises itself whn the members of the rival groups came face to face.
