The scrutiny of nominations which began on Saturday morning could be concluded only in eight of the 70 constituencies in which papers of 20 independent candidates were rejected on technical grounds by the returning officers.

Five nominations were rejected in Seemapuri, four each in Nand Nagri and Qarawal Nagar, three each in Babarpur and Yamuna Vihar and one in Rotash Nagar.

All nominations were found valid in Seelampuri and Ghond.

State Chief Electoral Officer Arun Goyal said scrutiny had been postponed in some constituencies due to doubling of election symbols.

"Shiv Sena and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha have bow and arrow as election symbol and both Panthers' Party and Samajwadi Party have cycle," he said, adding that the Election Commission had been apprised of the problem which is likely to be sorted out by Monday.

A decision on the nomination of independent candidate Ramesh Sabarwal in Gole Market constituency, from where Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit is contesting, has also been postponed on technical grounds, he said.
