The figure is likely to go up as an inventory of the property records is still underway, according to sources. The missing files are of plots measuring 128 to 288 square metre in Sectors C, D, G,H and I of the Jankipuram Housing Scheme.

The startling fact came to light following an exercise undertaken by the LDA in the wake of an order passed by the Justice RH Zaidi Commission to submit all property files with the Commission.

The Zaidi Commission, it maybe recalled, was constituted to study the plot allotment procedure followed by development authorities after a controversy over alleged anomalies by the LDA in direct allotment of 28 plots in Vipul Khand.

“We were preparing a scheme-wise list of the property files that were to be sent to the Commission when the irregularity came to light,” said an LDA official. The only way we can trace these records now is to issue a public notice giving numbers of the plots whose files are untraceable asking their owners to furnish proof of their claim over the property, said another senior LDA official. “We will give about a week’s time to such people to submit the relevant documents,” he added.
