"Earlier, it was decided that the operation would be carried on till Wednesday. But, as the target is yet to be fulfilled, the administration extended it for two more days and it would continue till Friday," District Magistrate Rajesh Kumar Sinha said.

About 20,000 birds were culled in villages in Mathabhanga and Dinhata sub-divisions, he said.

The target is to cull 45,000 birds.

At Daribash in Mathabhanga where villagers resisted the culling teams yesterday, the operation went on smoothly this morning, the DM said.

In Dinhata, the time for the drive was changed from today following local demand. The culling is now being held here from afternoon till 10 pm.
