21 nominations filed in Punjab

As many as 21 candidates, including Preneet Kaur wife of former chief minister Amarinder Singh, on Thursday filed their nominations for four parliament seats in Punjab going to polls on May seven.

As many as 21 candidates, including Preneet Kaur wife of former chief minister Amarinder Singh, on Thursday filed their nominations for four parliament seats in Punjab going to polls on May seven.

The total number of candidates in the fray has risen to 43 with the filing of 21 nominations on Thursday, a Punjab election office spokesman said in Chandigarh.

Preneet Kaur filed her papers from the Patiala seat as a Congress candidate whereas Krishan Kumar submitted his nominations as a covering candidate of Preneet Kaur.

Prominent among others those filed their nominations included Balwant Singh Ramunwalia of Lok Bhalia Party from Sangrur seat, Prem Singh Chandumajra of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) from Patiala seat, Nam Chand of BSP from Bathinda seat and Jameel-Ur-Mohammad-Ur-Rehman of BSP from Sangrur seat.

Five each nominations were filed from Bathinda, Ferozepur and Sangrur seat whereas six nominations were filed from Patiala seat.

The last date of filing of nominations is April 18. While scrutiny will take place on April 20, the candidates can withdraw from poll on April 22.
