22 injured in bus mishap

AS MANY as 22 persons were injured when a private bus on its way to Bareli hit a tree in the Misrod police station area on Thursday afternoon. At least five persons including the driver were critically injured in the accident.

AS MANY as 22 persons were injured when a private bus on its way to Bareli hit a tree in the Misrod police station area on Thursday afternoon. At least five persons including the driver were critically injured in the accident.

The mishap occurred when the driver, while trying to avoid a car, took a sharp turn and the bus rammed into a tree on the roadside near Gyarah Meel. The speeding car had suddenly appeared in front and the bus, which had to veer off the road in a split second, eyewitnesses said.

Those injured in the accident have been identified as Rajesh Patel, Vinod Patel, Santosh Patel, Rajiv Paliwal, Raghunandan Tiwari, Narmanda Tiwari, Dinesh Malviya, Rakesh Kashyap, Sachin Avre, Prem Singh Rajak and Sangeeta amongst others.

Bus driver Rakesh was critically injured in the process while several other passengers have sustained fractures. Soon after the mishap, police rushed to the spot.

The injured were admitted to JP Hospital and those with critical injuries were taken to Hamidia Hospital. The bus being old and decrepit was badly damaged due to the impact with which the bus had hit the tree.

Misrod police have registered a case and are looking into the matter.
