23 file papers for HCBA polls

AS MANY as 23 candidates filed papers on the first day of filing of nomination papers on Monday for the Allahabad High Court Bar Association (HCBA) election .The candidates, along with their supporters, continued to pour into the office of the HCBA throughout the day.

AS MANY as 23 candidates filed papers on the first day of filing of nomination papers on Monday for the Allahabad High Court Bar Association (HCBA) election .

The candidates, along with their supporters, continued to pour into the office of the HCBA throughout the day.

Nine candidates filed their nominations for 12 posts of Governing Council.

However, only one candidate turned up to file nomination for the coveted post of president, which is likely to witness a close contest this time.

Chief returning officer Haider Hussain, along with other returning officers, announced a voters’ list of 3636 voters on Monday. The ROs have invited objections from the lawyers, if any, with regard to the voters’ list. According to Haider Hussain, as many as 36 voters have been detected who have not deposited their arrears. These voters have only deposited the dues of a few months and have managed to get their names included in the list. The CRO said that the names of these lawyers would be excluded from the list on February 22, when the list would be scrutinised.

For the five posts of vice-presidents, five candidates turned up in the office of the HCBA to file their nominations. They included Narendra Prasad Shukla, Ram Kishore Gupta, Shamim Ahmad, Akhilesh Kumar Sharma and Ramesh Chandra Shukla. For the post of treasurer, two lawyers, Rajiv Shukla and Baijant Kumar Mishra filed their nominations.

For the post of joint secretary (administration), only one candidate, Manoj Kumar Mishra filed his nomination.For the post of joint secretary (press), two candidates, Shashi Shekhar Tiwari and Shushil Kumar Pandey filed their nomination papers.

For 12 posts of members of Governing Council, Rajeev Kumar Shukla, Rollie Kausher, Adarsh Kumar Pandey, Sanjay Mani Tripathi, Dinesh Chandra Tripathi, Surya Prakash Nigam, Nikhil Chaturvedi, Devi Prasad (DP Singh) and Awadhesh Narain Dubey filed nominations . Nomination papers can also be filed on Tuesday and Wednesday and can be withdrawn on Thursday. The polling is scheduled to be held on March 2.

Show-cause notice
The Chief returning officer, along with three returning officers, issued show cause notice to the Young Lawyers Sangathan on Monday for violating the code of conduct of HCBA election. The notice said that this organization had violated the code of conduct by pasting pamphlets/hand-bills on the walls of the High Court. The CRO and ROsPK Singh, RK Ojha and MC Chaturvedi warned that if the organisation failed to show cause within two days, action would be initiated against it.
