24 more file nominations in West Bengal

A total of 24 candidates including Congress state unit's working president Subrata Mukherjee filed their papers on Friday on the second day of the nomination process for 14 out of the 42 Lok Sabha seats in West Bengal, polling for which will be held in the first phase.

A total of 24 candidates including Congress state unit's working president Subrata Mukherjee filed their papers on Friday on the second day of the nomination process for 14 out of the 42 Lok Sabha seats in West Bengal, polling for which will be held in the first phase.

Mukherjee is contesting from Bankura, where his rival from Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) Basudeb Acharia filed his candidature on Thursday.

Congress candidate from Malda (North) Mausam Benazir Noor, and Trinamool Congress aspirants Siuli Saha (Bishnupur), Noor-e-Alam Chowdhury (Ghatal) and Dipak Ghosh (Midnapore) were among those who filed their papers.

Four BJP candidates also submitted their nominations.

The nomination process for the first phase of elections began on Thursday and the last date for filing nominations is on April 9. Scrutiny will take place on April 11 and April 13 is the last date for withdrawal. Polling will be held on April 30.

West Bengal will have a three-phase poll. After the first phase, the second phase - May 7 - will cover 17 constituencies, while the remaining 11 seats will see voting on May 13.
