The ailing students and teachers were immediately shifted to a referral hospital here, where their condition is said to be stable.

Sources said that the condition of the students and teachers started deteriorating on Friday morning, when they complained of abdominal pain and vomiting.

Sources further said the students and teachers had their dinner on Thursday night. However, they did not rule out the possibility of contaminated drinking water of a hand pump as a factor behind their falling ill.

Meanwhile, Sirmaur deputy commissioner Vikas Labroo also reached the hospital to take stock of the situation. Later, the DC directed the officials concerned of the tournament to send the children back their home.

The condition of the students was stable, said Labroo, adding that the food and water samples were collected for a lab test.
