Math wizard Anand Kumar’s Super 30 has done it again. Despite the higher cut-offs, 24 of its 30 students — mostly from underprivileged sections of the society — cracked the IIT-JEE this year.
Running under the banner of “Ramanujan School of Mathematics”, Super 30 is a unique Indian experiment. Every year, it grooms 30 talented students for IIT, providing free coaching, accommodation and food. Over the last eight years, 236 of its students have qualified. For the last 3 years, all 30 did so.
The students were basking in the newfound glory.
Kanwar Barister Singh from Jaunpur’s village Gairwar almost broke down while talking to his father Ramkripal Singh, a marginal farmer, on phone from Kumar’s house in a dingy locality of Mithapur.
Dharmpal Yadav, from a remote village of Vaishali, had tears in his eyes as he broke the news to his father Rampravesh Rai, a truck driver in Kolkata.
“I did not have money, had I not been in Super 30 this would not have happened,” he said.
Priyanka, from Himachal’s Nangal, was on cloud nine. “I feel all my efforts have been rewarded,” said the girl, whose father has a mobile repairing shop.

“As a teacher, I am happy about what they have achieved,” said Kumar. “It underlines the cause Super 30 has been championing for the last eight years.”
