25 buildings declared vulnerable at Kalbadevi, Marine Drive

The Municipal Corporation’s pre-monsoon survey has listed 25 buildings, as most vulnerable, in C-ward, which includes Kalbadevi and Marine Drive. Residents of cessed buildings have been issued notices and asked to move out.

The Municipal Corporation’s pre-monsoon survey has listed 25 buildings, as most vulnerable, in C-ward, which includes Kalbadevi and Marine Drive. Residents of cessed buildings have been issued notices and asked to move out.

“We have given the list of these buildings to the fire department and have asked them to study the building plan. This would make it easier for them to carry out evacuation process in case of an emergency,” said a civic officer.

The municipal corporation has also declared 42 buildings as dangerous from Borivli of which six need to be vacated immediately.

“Notices have been sent to all these building to vacate and shift to safer place temporarily. Heavy rains may create problems in these areas,” an officer said. Municipal Commissioner Swadheen Kshatriya said, “We will evacuate buildings owned by the civic body.”

Kalbadevi and Marine Drive have eight buildings owned by the municipal corporation and others privately owned. The Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority, had declared 24 old and dilapidated buildings in the island city as extremely dangerous.
