No outsider as SGPGI HoD
THE STATE Cabinet on Tuesday decided to set up 25 new ITIs in the minority- dominated community development blocks and 50 new ITIs in different districts for the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes under the special component plan.
The Cabinet decided to amend the Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGI) Lucknow Act to ensure that the selection committee did not have the option to appoint outsiders as the HoD. Now, the senior most member of the faculty would be the HoD.
It approved the Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) of the two new allopathic medical colleges to be set up at Kannauj and Jalaun with an investment of Rs 212.61 crore each. Incidentally, Kannauj is the Lok Sabha constituency of Samajwadi Party (SP) MP Akhilesh Yadav, son of CM Mulayam Singh Yadav.
Elaborating upon the government decision, chief secretary Naveen Chandra Bajpai said that the 25 new ITIs would be set up for minorities. Those ITIs would impart training in 12 trades comprising dress designing, consumer electronics, gas and electrical welding, fashion technology, information technology, system maintenance, computer programming, electronics, plumber and draftsmanship.
A sum of Rs 15.58 crore was set aside in the state budget, he said. He added that 650 new posts would be created for the new ITIs. The State Cabinet also decided to set up 50 new ITIs under the special component plan. A sum of Rs 8.22 crore has was set aside for the purpose, he said. The State Cabinet decided to introduce four short-term trades of 6 months to 1 year duration in the 14 ITIs set up under the special component plan. These would include data entry, communication maintenance equipment, networking technology and computer aided embroidery. A sum of Rs 4.5 crore was already available for the purpose, the chief secretary said.

{{/usCountry}}The Cabinet also decided to swet up a Bio Diversity Board in accordance with the provisions the Bio Diversity Act-2002, Bajpai said. As per the decision, an expert would be appointed as chairman of the board. Five officers would be ex-officio members and five experts from the field of botany, zoology, environment or geology would be nominated as expert to the committee.
The Centre had allocated a sum of Rs 10 lakh for setting up the board, he said.
The Centre had already set up a National Biodiversity Authority, he said. The Cabinet decided to allow the ration shops of the food and civil supplies department to sell soaps, pulses, toothpaste, salt and tea.
It decided to exempt ‘Kasturi-the fragrance of life’ from entertainment tax. As per the decision, 12 prints of film will remain tax-free for three months in UP.
