In-service candidates seeking admission to post-graduate medical degree courses will continue to have 25% seats reserved for them this year even though the state government issued a Government Resolution (GR) on Tuesday doing away the reservation in their favour.
The Bombay high court on Thursday clarified that the situation — which prevailed in July 2012 when the court directed the state government to come out with a policy decision about reservation for in-service candidates well in time — would continue to govern this year’s admission for post-graduate degree medical courses such as MD and MS.
“How can you change the rules at the last moment in this fashion?” the division bench of Justice VM Kanade and Justice KR Shriram said, referring to the fact that the government came out with the first GR on June 21 and within a fortnight cancelled it by issuing another GR on July 2, 2013.
“Such lastminute changes create uncertainty and cause frustration among students,” they added.
The GR issued on July 2 provides for 25% reservation for candidates who have served as medical officers in hilly, tribal and difficult areas of the state for three years for admission to post graduate diploma courses.
