The police said the old woman sustained serious injuries to the stomach, chest and back. They have not found the weapon or the assailant.

Sagar Pisekar apparently assaulted Parvatibai and then just walked out of her building in Bhayander (East).

The woman was found by her daughter-in-law Vasanti.

“Sagar came here with his father on Tuesday, to see his ailing grandmother,” said Vasanti. His father left for Alibaug on Wednesday.

At 11 am, as Vasanti was talking on her cellphone outside the flat, she saw Sagar walking away with his two bags.

“He disappeared before I could ask anything,” she said.

Vasanti’s husband and her son (in his twenties) were at work. When she went back into the house, she saw her mother-in-law bleeding and called her relatives, who live in the same building. The relatives called the police.

“I did not hear any scream as there was a lot of noise in the area,” Vasanti told the police in her statement.

Police Sub-Inspector Vikas Padale of Mira Road police station said: “The motive for the murder is not yet clear. A team has been sent to Alibaug to try and find Sagar.”
