Maharashtra Leader of Opposition Eknath Khadse on Wednesday criticised the state government for not inquiring into the allegations made by Former Commissioner of Police Hassan Gafoor that "a section of senior police officers refused to be on the ground and take on the terrorists".
"I had raised this doubt during the last winter session of the legislature, held immediately after the terror attacks. The chief minister did not answer the question. Now the same issue is being raised by their own officer," Khadse said.
In an interview to a news magazine, Gafoor was quoted as saying "a section of senior police officers refused to be on the
ground and take on the terrorists. By doing so, they chose to ignore the need of the hour."
"Now at least the government should conduct the enquiry of those officials who did not go to the field, since their own officer is also saying the same," Khadse told reporters.
"The government has always favoured some police officers by repeatedly giving them promotions, which has created resentment in the entire police force," Khadse alleged.
He also took a dig at state Home Minister R R Patil who had left the post taking moral responsibility of the attacks. "Is the moral responsibility over within 10 months," he asked, referring to Patil's reinstatement as Home Minister.
