OFFICIALS OF Allahabad University, led by proctor Prof HN Mishra, raided Pant Hostel and evicted 28 illegal inmates, on Thursday.

These students had been served regular notices earlier, warning them to vacate the rooms or face action, but in vain.
Thursday’s raid is believed to be just the first in the officials’ list for evicting illegal inmates from varsity hostels— about which AU authorities had been warning for months.
“We raided the hostel and discovered 28 students illegally occupying the rooms. They were immediately made to vacate the rooms. The eviction took place peacefully,” Prof Mishra said.
He further said new students of the varsity, who had already allotted rooms in Pant Hostel, were given possession of the vacant rooms.
“We will once again like to warn all illegal inmates to vacate the hostel rooms as we are determined to forcefully vacate them, if needed, to help newcomers get possession of the rooms allotted to them,” he said.
Membership drive stopped
DURING THE identity card checking drive, AU proctor Prof HN Mishra and his team of assistant proctors discovered that some student organisations, including the Students’ Federation of India and the All India Students’ Association, were conducting a membership drive by setting up make-shift offices on the campus, on Thursday.
The proctorial team objected to the drive and ordered that it be immediately stopped. They also got the posters and banners put up by these organisations removed.

On being contacted, Prof Mishra said, “No organisation is allowed to carry out a membership drive on the campus, that too by setting up tables and chairs and putting up banners and posters. We stopped the drive today and in future, too, no organisation will be allowed to do so.”
