State Relief Commissioner Alok Shukla said flood waters have entered 24 villages in Baloda Bazar area of Raipur district and five villages in Sarangarh area of Raigarh district due to rise in water level of rivers in that areas.

Motorboats have been used to rescue the stranded people in both areas, Shukla said.

Three persons, including an infant, were killed in Durg district in rain-related incidents while two died in Rajnandgaon and one killed in Mahasamund district, officials told.

The death toll in the state has risen to 23 in rain-related incidents this season.

In Durg, an 18-month-old infant and two eight-year-old children were swept away in high currents, they said.

In Rajnandgaon district, one person was killed in a wall collapse while another was washed away, officials said.

An overflowing Jonk river in Mahasamund district has cut off vehicular traffic between Chhattisgarh and Orissa, district Collector Shiv Kumar Tiwari told. He added that a woman was washed away in the district on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall in the state till tomorrow.

In the wake of Met prediction, all districts were asked to remain on high alert, Shukla said.
