A 29-year-old woman on Sunday delivered a boy in a Delhi Police PCR van while she was being rushed to a hospital.

A 29-year-old woman on Sunday delivered a boy in a Delhi Police PCR van while she was being rushed to a hospital.

The woman, Arti, was travelling in a train from Gwalior to Samalkha in Panipat when she felt labour pain. Her in-laws, who were accompanying her, got down at Sabji Mandi railway station early in the morning and sought help.

A railway employee called the police control room.

PCR van (sugar 46) of the Delhi Police received a call about the woman being in pain.

The PCR staff immediately rushed to the spot and was on its way to Hindu Rao Hospital, when Aarti gave birth to the baby..

As the woman was being taken to hospital, she delivered a baby in the PCR van, said R K Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police (PCR).

The woman and her child have been admitted to Bara Hindurao Hospital, said the officer.

This is another example of good work done by Delhi Police’s PCR staff in the last few days, he said.

Former Delhi Police Commissioner BS Bassi termed it as the growth of the PCR unit in Delhi.
