Amid tight security, 3,387 pilgrims on Saturday left Jammu base camp for 13,500-feet high shrine in South Kashmir Himalayas.

The pilgrims comprising 2,229 males, 885 females, 73 children and 200 sadhus left in a cavalcade of 108 vehicles from Bhagwati Nagar base camp in Jammu at around 0515 hours for Amarnath, police said.

Escorted by Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), the convoy of yatra has crossed Patnitop area in Ramban district on Jammu-Srinagar National highway towards base camps of pahalgam and Baltal in Kashmir valley, they said.

With Saturday's batch, as many as 53,829 pilgrims have left Jammu in 16 batches for their onward journey to cave shrine of Amarnath.
