3,500 school buses fined in three months

The figures show a sharp increase in the number of challans as compared to the previous year. The number was just 4,712 for the entire year of 2011. On an average, about 400 challans were issued to school buses every month in 2011.

The city traffic police have issued more than 3,500 challans to school buses during the first three months of this year. The maximum number of challans was issued for jumping the red light.

The figures show a sharp increase in the number of challans as compared to the previous year. The number was just 4,712 for the entire year of 2011. On an average, about 400 challans were issued to school buses every month in 2011.

“We have also sent notices to school authorities to draw their attention to rash driving and traffic violation by their drivers. Jumping of traffic lights has become an order of the day,” said Bharti Arora, DCP (traffic), Gurgaon police.

“According to Supreme Court guidelines, overloading of school vehicles is against law and we will take strict action against violators,” said Arora.
