Hamirpur deputy commissioner Ashish Singhmar honoured the chief guest with a memento and a shawl on the occasion.

Lakhanpal said such fairs and festivals reminded them of their glorious past and united various communities and areas.

He gave a clarion call to people to go ahead with such functions in future also and take active part in these.

Lakhanpal gave details of the progress made by the district since its formation and said the entire credit goes to the Congress for its pro-people policies and the people of the district who had supported the government for all its programmes.

A colourful programme was also presented on the occasion.

The chief guest gave prizes to those who won competitions in various categories of games and other sporting events.

Though the district administration took steps to make the function a grand success, most of the chairs in the pandals remained vacant.

Besides, second and third rung Congress workers were also seen overpowering the festival by encroaching upon the seats meant for the media and VIPs. They compelled the district administration to honour them and even complained to chief minister Virbhadra Singh for this.
