THREE MP Police constables – dismissed from the service in 1984 in the custodial death case but declared innocent by the Supreme Court in 2004 – have accused top level police officials of the state of dishonouring the apex court’s judgment by not reinstating them or providing pension benefits till date.
Addressing a press conference here on Monday, three constables Bahadur Singh Parihar (badge No. 230), Dhanraj Dubey (badge no. 1078) and Pooran Singh Vishwakarma (badge no. 177) alleged high-handedness by the top police officials who adjudged their case not worthy of being recommended for reinstatement.
“Top level police officials have been indifferent towards our plight despite the Supreme Court ordering in our favour,’’ Bahadur Singh lamented.
“The police top brass have expressed a lame excuse that we no more look like police personnel,’’ Singh stated. He pointed out that the State Law Department, GAD, Home Department and even the State Police’s Legal Advisor (ADOP) had approved their reinstatement under the Section 241 of the Police Regulation.
“Yet the Minister of State for Home Nagendra Singh has ordered no-work, no-payment and no pension in our case,’’ Dhanraj Dubey said. Presenting papers of similar precedence, the constables pointed out several other police personnel — involved in crimes and proven innocent - had been reinstated in the past too.
The trio asserted they would approach the President and appeal again in the Supreme Court if their reinstatement or pension benefits – as the case may be – were not approved within 15 days. They added their families had come to the verge of dying of hunger as all their savings and even properties had been sold off fighting the court cases for the past 23 years.
