Rebels part of LBD, says Speaker
THE ALREADY fluid political situation in the state suddenly took a turn for the worse for the SP-led UP government on Wednesday when three ministers rushed to the Raj Bhawan and submitted their resignation to Governor TV Rajeswar.
The ministers who submitted their resignation today were Jaivir Singh, Surendra Vikram Singh and Dharampal Singh. They belonged to the breakaway group of the BSP, which merged with the SP in 2003. One more MLA Ramji Shukla, who accompanied the ministers, requested the Governor for making his seating arrangement with the BSP group. In a pre-emptive move later, Speaker Mata Prasad Pandey, however, ruled that in the light of the High Court judgment, the 40 BSP rebels would function as Loktantrik Bahujan Dal, which in other words meant any such move could invite disqualification.
Minister of State for Health Jaivir Singh, Minister of State for Food Surendra Vikram Singh and chairman UP Poultry and Livestock Limited Dharmapal Singh (minister rank) said they had submitted their resignation to the Governor in the light of High Court judgment quashing the then Speaker Keshari Nath Tripathi’s orders recognising the BSP’s breakaway faction as the Loktantrik Bahujan Dal and later its merger with the SP in Sept 2003. The ministers in separate letters to the Governor said it was now not morally possible to continue in the ministry after the court decision. They asked the Governor to accept their resignation with immediate effect.
Ramji Shukla in his letter said after the court order he had become a member of the BSP, thus instruction should be issued for allocation of his seat with the BSP group in the House. Jaivir Singh and Surendra Vikram Singh in another representation to the Governor have sought adequate security. The two ministers said PWD Minister and SP leader Shivpal Singh Yadav threatened them with dire consequences on Wednesday. The ministers said they had already told Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav about their decision to quit. The ministers told newsmen that the HC decision was very clear and there was no question of continuing in the government after the judgment. These members were accompanied by BSPLP leader SP Maurya, Nasimuddin Siddique and Inderjit Saroj. Maurya said it was just the beginning and the process of bringing in more members of the breakaway faction would continue till the fall of the government.
