On October 10, Mayuri Datta Choudhari and Rashmi Gokalani, both 20 years old, had gone missing. After four days, their bodies were found near Barvi Dam, 3km from Ulhasnagar. Both were third year students of BSc (computer science) of CHM College, Ulhasnagar. Choudhari was a resident of Dombivli while Gokalani stayed in Ulhasnagar. So missing complaints were filed in police stations in both the areas.

Deputy commissioner of police Sarang Awad, Ulhasnagar said, “More than 300 people including relatives, students and teachers were questioned.” “During investigation it was revealed that Hari Mukane, a resident of Belavali village had seen the girls. However, he was not in the village since the incidence took place,” Awad added.

The police traced Mukane who gave vital information about the murder. This helped the police arresting the three accused — Bhaskar Wagh, 25, Shravan Wagh, 24, and Laxman Mukane, 27, — all residents of Belavali village, who worked with a brick manufacturing unit. The police have recovered mobile phones of the girls from them. “They have confessed to their crime,” an official said.

“Prima facie it seems they wanted to rob the girls. But many things are unclear like why did the girls go to Barvi Dam? Were they alone or with someone? Are more people involved in the murder?”
