3 held for poisoning tiger

Three people were arrested for allegedly killing a tiger near Nagzira Wildlife Sanctuary in Gondia district, 125 km from Nagpur, reports Pradip Kumar Maitra.

Three people were arrested for allegedly killing a tiger near Nagzira Wildlife Sanctuary in Gondia district, 125 km from Nagpur.

Acting on a tip-off, forest personnel rounded up three men from Govindtola village.

Dr Nandkishore, chief conservator of forests, Wildlife, Vidarbha region, said that all the three accused have been kept in forest custody for interrogation.

“The tiger was killed after it ate a carcass that was poisoned,” he added.

Hanumant Pise (28), the owner of the cow, Dharmaraj Kirsan (35) and Shalikram Ambedare (48) were arrested for allegedly pouring pesticide on the dead cow.

According to sources, the tiger had killed a cow near Mangezari and feasted on the carcass a couple of days ago.

The next day the tiger came back to eat the remains but it died after eating. since the carcass was poisoned.

Forest officials said the tiger might have been killed by poisoning.

The officers said that the skin, paws, nails and teeth of the tiger were missing.

Senior officials suspected that it might also be a case of revenge killing by villagers. Sources said that the owner of the cow might have poisoned to take revenge.
