THREE STUDENTS of the Chokhraj Tulsiyan Saraswati Vidya Mandir of Maharajganj district secured positions on the UP Board Intermediate examination merit list.
Ashutosh Singh secured the sixth position on the merit list with 454 marks out of 500. Vikas Kumar Tripathi secured the tenth position with 89 per cent marks (448/500). Dharamveer Singh of the same college was placed 20th on the merit list with 87 per cent marks.
No other student of any intermediate college in Gorakhpur, or other districts of the division could find a place on the merit list. The result was disappointing for the Carmel Girls’ Inter College, the Government Jubilee Inter College and the MG Inter College students.
Students of these colleges had shone in the UP Board examination in previous years. The principals of these college admitted the result was unexpected.
Talking to Hindustan Times, Ashutosh Singh gave the credit for his success to his parents and his teachers, but added that he had hoped to top the merit list.
He also said he aspired to be an IAS officer.
His father is a railway employee and his mother is with the Health Department. Ashutosh Singh was in Kanpur and preparing for the engineering entrance examinations.
Vikas Kumar Tripathi said he wanted to be a computer engineer. Dharmveer Singh, too, said he wanted to be an engineer.

{{/usCountry}}College principal Jyotish Mani Tripathi said separate class was held for 10 promising students. Barring 2004, students of the college had figured on the merit in the last five years, he said.
