MORE THAN two-and-a-half years after the State Government had carved Burhanpur, Anuppur and Ashok Nagar districts, the three districts are yet to figure on the State’s map.
There is no mention of the area and population of these districts on the DPR website www.mpinfo.org. Nor is there any demarcation of these districts on the map of Madhya Pradesh yet.
Although the site is also blank on the geographical area of Umaria, Sheopur, Neemuch, Katni, Harda, Dindori and Barwani districts that were created much earlier, at least their population and place are shown on the map. The maps hung in Government offices show Madhya Pradesh sans these districts.
Government officials at Mantralaya are also unaware about the fact that these full-fledged districts do not figure on the State’s map.
When asked about it, a senior official looked at the map on the wall in his own office chamber and could not find the districts.
“There has been a mistake, the districts are missing,” he sheepishly said. Ironically, the website of these districts hosted by National Informatics Centre, (NIC), Department of Communications and Information Technology, New Delhi that designs webpage/sites for each district in the country does have some statistics about these districts.
The site www.burhanpur.nic.in gives details about the area and population of Burhanpur that was carved out of Khandwa, though there is no map. The site of Anuppur also provides basic statistics. Besides, a map of Ashok Nagar, though not very clear, has been put up at the NIC’s website for the district. But the DPR and the government statistics remain oblivious to the existence of these three districts carved in 2003.

{{/usCountry}}Principal Secretary (Revenue) Pukhraj Maru could not be contacted for his comment regarding demarcation of these districts. He was away on tour. Interestingly, the officials passed the buck for omission on the Information Technology or Revenue departments.
