The incident occurred when the trio — Chembur-resident Krish Bosh (19) and his friends, Niyal Karnad (20) and Megh Karnad (17) — was going to a pizza parlour in Marine Drive for dinner in Bosh’s Mitsubishi Lancer around 10 pm.

Bosh and Karnad, both ground pilots, are in the city after finishing their courses from an US-based institute.

As the Lancer was about to reach the Reay Road bridge toll junction, an Innova tried to overtake it, the Sewri police said.

“The boys did not let the Innova overtake, which irked the driver of the latter. An argument started between the Innova’s driver and Bosh,” said S Ghobale, senior inspector attached to Sewri police station.

“There were seven people in the Innova. The argument turned violent when five men from the Innova, all middle-aged, got off the car and dragged out the three from the Lancer,” Ghobale added.
“Bosh asked them why have they intercepted their car, to which one said, ‘Yeh road hamare baap ki hai, malum hai tumne kiske saath panga liya hai. (This road belongs to our father, do you know whom are you fighting with).”

The Sewri police have registered a case of robbery and assault against the seven.

“The men did not note down the number of the Innova and so, it is becoming difficult to trace them. We would prepare the sketches of the men based on the statements of the trio. Incidents of road rage are common in the city but the men have been beaten up brutally,” said Ghobale.
