Over 30 people, including 10 children, were burnt alive on Sunday when a bus carrying 64 passengers caught fire after a road accident in Challakere, near Chitradurga, 210 km north-west of Bangalore.

The driver of the bus lost control while trying to avoid a collision from a vehicle coming from the opposite direction. The bus crashed through a road barrier and fell into a ditch on the road side. Its fuel tank leaked and caught fire.
34 persons were injured and the condition of three is critical.
Some of the bodies were charred beyond recognition.
